LOST LIT is happy to offer two types of writing workshops: a GET LIT WORKSHOP and a WORKS-IN-PROGRESS WORKSHOP. Here’s how they work.
Using the Amherst Writers & Artists method, you’ll be guided through the tumultuous, yet thrilling waters of finding your voice and telling the story you need to tell.Through prompts that will hopefully spark an idea or inspiration for a new piece of writing to emerge, we’ll write free-style for a timed amount of time. We’ll come back together as a group and voluntarily share our writing aloud. We’ll respond and give feedback in only a positive, supportive manner, since everything written is considered raw, fresh and fragile. We usually have time to go 2 rounds. By the end of the night, you’ll walk away with lots of your own writing.
This will be more of a traditional manuscript critique style workshop where writers will submit from 5 pages up to 15 pages of a project (short story, personal essay, novel or memoir excerpt) ahead of time. During each writer’s scheduled workshop day, they will be given verbal, as well as written feedback from myself as well as the other participants on their submission. This kind of workshop is meant for writers who are in the middle of their own projects or need a push of accountability to really make a dent in their stories. This WIP workshop will incorporate the Amherst Writer’s & Artists method of positive feedback, but will allow for more directive and suggestive ways to improve your story.
