    On Monday, October 12, 2015, please join us for a Special Poets & Writer’s Funded Reading and chat with published Asian American Women Writers and long time friends Marie Myung-Ok Lee and Susan Ito. Marie and Susan will both read from current projects exploring themes of family, identity, health, secrets and love. Afterwards, there will be time for them to catch up in person, talk about the writer’s life and answer audience questions.

    WRITER BIOS:
    MARIE MYUNG-OK LEE is an acclaimed Korean-American writer and author of the novel Somebody’s Daughter. Her next novel, on the future of medicine, is forthcoming with Simon & Schuster. She graduated from Brown University and was a Writer in Residence there, before she began teaching at Columbia University’s Writing Division.
    Her stories and essays have been published in The AtlanticThe New York TimesSlateSalonGuernica, and The Guardian, among others. She was the first Fulbright Scholar to Korea in creative writing and has received many honors for her work, including an O. Henry honorable mention, the Best Book Award from the Friends of American Writers, and a Rhode Island State Council on the Arts fiction fellowship.
    She has been a Yaddo and MacDowell Colony fellow and has served as a judge for the National Book Award and the PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award. In addition, Ms. Lee is a founder of the Asian American Writers’ Workshop.

    SUSAN ITO is the author of The Mouse Room, a SheBooks mini-memoir. She co-edited the anthology A Ghost At Heart’s Edge: Stories & Poems of Adoption (North Atlantic Books). She is a creative nonfiction editor at the online literary journal Literary Mama, and her work has appeared in Growing Up Asian American, Choice, Hip Mama, The Bellevue Literary Review, Making More Waves,the Kartika Review and elsewhere. She writes and teaches at the San Francisco Writers’ Grotto, and in the Creative Nonfiction MFA program at Bay Path University. http://www.susanito.com
